OCD is a loop, not a thought. It starts with something unwanted pushing into your mind — a thought, an image, an urge, a doubt, a feeling that something is not right. It lands as alarm.
Then you do something to make the alarm quieter. You check. You wash. You ask someone. You look it up. You go back over what happened. You pray, you replace the thought with a better one, you avoid the whole situation. It works — for about a minute.
That minute is the problem. Every time relief arrives, your brain learns that the alarm was real and that the ritual is what saved you. So the alarm comes back louder, and the ritual has to get bigger. The loop tightens, and your world gets smaller around it.
OCD is not about the content. Two people with completely different fears — contamination, harm, religion, their relationship, their sexuality, their health — are running the same machine.
